东东历险记 (Dōng Dōng Lì Xiǎn Jì – Dong Dong’s Adventures)

This is my top pick from The Little Book Box of February! I discovered that it is a local book, written by a Singaporean author Jessie Wee. There are 10 short stories in this book about Dong Dong, a mouse with a very long tail. After every story, the author writes a short note about how her amusing life experiences inspired her to create stories about Dong Dong’s Adventures. For example, the first story is about how she found a mouse in her kitchen early one morning and screamed loudly. Her young sons thought she had either seen a thief or a ghost! Another character in the story, an old Indian woman in a white sari was inspired by her Indian friend’s grandmother. I also like this book because of the colourful cartoons and pictures of Singaporean people from the past. I could read this book on my own, as I knew about 70% of the words. Those that I didn’t know, I used an e-reader pen to help. I hope you will search for this book in the library and enjoy it!
